Melbourne, FL, October 22, 2001 - AirNet Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: ANCC),
the software-defined radio technology leader for wireless systems,
announced that a new US based customer has placed a $1M order for GSM (Global
System for Mobile Communications) Base Station Subsystem products. This
customer is the latest to discover the AirNet advantage and will install
AdaptaCell™ broadband, software-defined base stations, and AirSite® Backhaul
Free™ base stations. As a result of this initial order, this customer
will be able to rapidly deploy voice services in their coverage area while
benefiting from the capability to upgrade the system to meet high speed data
demands - all without replacing hardware.
"This US based carrier is the latest customer to recognize the
incredible versatility and scalability of our Software Defined Radio (SDR)
technology,” noted Glenn Ehley, president and CEO, AirNet Communications
Corp. “They evaluated several offerings from other vendors but only
AirNet provided them with the most cost effective coverage solution.”
The AirNet AdaptaCell is a broadband, software-defined solution that enables
wireless operators to easily migrate to GPRS and EDGE using their existing
AirNet base stations by simply upgrading software. Such upgrades can be
performed remotely from a network control center, dramatically reducing the cost
and time of deploying the solution.
Due to competitive business concerns, this customer has specifically requested
that AirNet refrain from disclosing their identity other than the fact that they
are a US based carrier.
